Madame X – John Singer Sargent 1883

Through 550 works—clothing, accessories, fine arts, decorative arts—the exhibition offers full immersion into the world of this Belle Époque creator and highlights the lasting influence of Paul Poiret (1879–1944), revealing the breadth of his creative genius.
Poiret, who invented fluid lines for women, worshipped color, and moved in the circles of the greatest artists of his time—Vlaminck, Derain, Klimt, Dufy (who designed fabrics for him). Poiret the Magnificent, passionate about movement and dance, was himself an artist, painter, and writer. A scenography as colorful as he was!

  • 3:30 pm – Meeting at the Musée d’Orsay for a visit of the exhibition “Sargent: The Paris Years”.

John Singer Sargent, along with Whistler, was the most famous American artist of his generation in the United States. He was celebrated in the United Kingdom, where he spent most of his career. This exhibition of 90 works retraces the meteoric rise of the artist who arrived in Paris in 1874 to study under Carolus-Duran. The scandal provoked by his portrait of Madame Gautreau led him to leave Paris for London, where he pursued his career.

Continuing its exploration of masters influenced by Caravaggism, the museum pays tribute to Georges de La Tour. The exhibition offers a new interpretation of his career and seeks to shed light on the mysteries surrounding his work. About thirty paintings and drawings reveal the spiritual intensity and formal purity that characterize his art.

  • 2:30 pm – Visit to Notre Dame de Paris after its restoration.
