[MHM] Museum of History of Marseille – ancient port

Close to the old port and all around the archeological site of the Bourse – Port antique, the history museum of Marseille, completely renovated in 2013, allows you to discover the 26 centuries of existence of the oldest city in France. The building houses a reference exhibition of 3500 m2 where 4000 pieces of the collection are exhibited.

The route is organized in 13 chronological sequences of the first prehistoric occupations to contemporary urban development punctuated by numerous audiovisual and multimedia devices and stopovers of history, specially designed for young audiences.

The museum also has a temporary exhibition space, a workshop for the school public, a 200-seat auditorium and a documentation center open to all. Outside the walls, the digital extension of the museum enriches the urban visit of the historic Marseille route from the ancient port to Fort-Saint-Jean, now MUCEM.
