This conference is organized by the Fédération des Rencontres Interacadémiques Méditerranéennes (RIM) under the auspices of the Académie des Sciences, Lettres et Arts de Marseille.

The RIM Federation (law of 1901), created in June 2024 by its founding members (the academies of Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Nîmes, and Marseille), aims to bring together academies and learned societies from both the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean in order to:

  • Strengthen the development of intercultural, scientific, and artistic exchanges among Mediterranean countries;
  • Organize scientific and cultural events aligned with the federation’s objectives and open to a wide audience;
  • Represent its members to public authorities and to organizations and companies interested in its activities.

The federation relies on a scientific committee responsible for the conference “The City and Water in the Mediterranean: Centuries-Old Challenges Becoming Critical”, which includes members of the four founding academies, as well as those of Tunisia, Var, and Montpellier.
