Favorites (love at first sight?) in the museums of Marseille
24 April - 25 April

Art and History Conference – L’ALCAZAR – BMVR 58 Cours Belsunce 13001 Marseille Conference labeled Tricentennial of the Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts of Marseille. This conference is an invitation, an invitation to enter the journey of art history.
Art, that thing “which makes life more interesting than art,” assured Robert Filliou.
The entry is not easy. Its forms are varied, its currents multiple, its intentions diverse, and the school scarcely initiates us into its history. And yet, there is time. One must grasp its time. One must have the landmarks. The works are there, in our museums of Marseille, exposed to the public gaze, but one must find their meaning and penetrate into the worlds that, without their knowledge, they conceal.
“To see is to know,” affirmed Alfred de Musset.
Who then, better than the curators of our museums who guard them, or the specialists who know them, can reveal their meaning to us? This is what we asked a dozen of them, who agreed to share with us their “favorites,” even their “love at first sight,” and to guide us among the works and objects of the public collections they oversee, from those of ancient Antiquity—since Marseille, daughter of Greece, under the protection of Artemis, can boast of its 2600 years of history—to those of our uncertain times, not forgetting those of other cultures that neighbor or have interacted with ours. Free access, subject to availability.
