Marseilles. In the distance, the imagination…

The exhibition “Far away, the imagination…” will celebrate a collection of around 180 to 200 objects and works of art among the most important collections preserved by the network of 14 museums of the City of Marseille.

Combining eras, categories and geographies, this project will present itself as a poetic portrait of Marseille’s heritage funds, in different chapters which reveal their numerous identities and the views that the scientific teams of the Marseille Museums have on them. Painting, sculpture, decorative arts, fashion, design, contemporary creation and archeology will thus be convened, through the prism of territorial issues, the trajectories of objects, individuals and cultures, post-colonial relations and gender, according to the history of art. With the ambition of encouraging the rediscovery and appropriation of the collections by the public, this exhibition will be accompanied by participatory projects aimed at as many people as possible.
