“Exploration of the Titanic with the Nautile” by Guy Sciarrone
28 November | 18h30 - 20h30
Guy Sciarrone, electronics engineer and diver, was the chief pilot of this
marvel of technology that is the NAUTILE.
This IFREMER submarine that the world envies us, allowed Guy Sciarrone to be the first
French people diving on the wreck of the TITANIC on July 25, 1985, off the coast of Newfoundland at 3800
meters of depth. At this depth, the submarine’s passenger compartment experiences a pressure of 600 bars per
cm2, which corresponds, relative to the titanium alloy sphere, to 50,000 tonnes, i.e. to the weight
of the Titanic itself!
He shares with us his experience, his videos, and some objects recovered from this giant
eternally frozen in the agonizing immensity of the deep sea… Fascinating…
