Beate and Serge Klarsfeld, the battles of memory 1968 – 1978
18 April 2024 - 1 September 2024

Exhibition produced by the Shoah Memorial, in partnership with the Marseille History Museum
The decade 1968-1978 marks an important turning point in the evolution of the memory of the Shoah in Europe and around the world. The spectacular action of Beate and Serge Klarsfeld, carried out on several continents, plays a major role in this movement towards recognition. 56 years after the slap administered by Beate Klarsfeld in 1968 to West German Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger and 46 years after the publication in 1978 by Serge Klarsfeld of the Memorial of the deportation of Jews from France, the Shoah Memorial retraces Beate’s journey and Serge Klarsfeld in favor of the victims of the Shoah and historical knowledge, against the impunity of former leaders of the Final Solution and against anti-Semitism. Thanks to numerous unpublished documents and objects, the history and motivations of their commitment are fully restored, joining those of an entire generation, of which they become the symbols to this day.
